ARK Sets September 30 Content Update With Cerberax, UE 5.8 and More

ARK: Survival Ascended players have a major date to mark down: September 30. Studio Wildcard has confirmed that day will bring a group of additions led by the three-headed Cerberax, alongside the Unreal Engine 5.8 upgrade, a Therizinosaurus TLC pass and Dragontopia creature Gargantar.
The update’s creature reveal gives a much clearer picture of how Cerberax is intended to work than a standard tame. It is a powerful combat animal built around three independently operating heads, a taming process that asks players to manage each of them, and a co-op riding setup that can put three Survivors in control at once. For tribes preparing for the release, the creature looks positioned as a coordinated group asset rather than simply another large mount.
Cerberax will require a three-part taming effort
Known scientifically as Cerberax tricipitis, Cerberax is classified as an aggressive carnivore. The enormous three-headed canid is described as capable of standing up to creatures such as a Rex or Ossidon, while Giganotosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus remain the notable upper-tier exceptions cited for a direct fight. Its durability is substantial, and players fighting one are advised to use bleed effects.
Its heads have distinct elemental roles. The right head uses fire against enemies and consumes venom to inflict crippling effects. The left head employs venom to debilitate targets but uses fire as a healing resource. At the centre, the main head improves the output of both side heads and enables their flame and venom effects to reach nearby opponents. That interaction means the creature’s threat is not just raw size: its strongest performance comes when all three heads are contributing.
Taming it will likewise involve more than knocking out a single target. Narcotics can subdue Cerberax, but its adrenaline then concentrates in one head. Survivors must mount that awakened head and calm it to drain its energy before another head rises. The process repeats until every head has been exhausted, after which the animal can be fed to complete the tame.
Once claimed, the best-case setup is a three-person crew. One rider manages the body and central head, while two other Survivors operate the side heads. A solo player may still see value in its survivability and offensive toolkit, but the full tactical design is clearly aimed at tribes able to coordinate riders and choose targets together.
September 30 also brings engine, TLC and Dragontopia additions
Cerberax is only one piece of the scheduled September 30 package. The game is also due to receive its Unreal Engine 5.8 upgrade, although no further technical breakdown has been confirmed in the announcement. Players should therefore avoid assuming particular performance, visual or feature changes ahead of the update’s release notes.
The same date is set for the Therizinosaurus TLC. The announcement does not yet specify which elements of the familiar creature’s appearance, animation, mechanics or balance will change, but the confirmation puts it on the same release calendar as the engine update and the new creatures.
Gargantar, a creature associated with ARK: Dragontopia, is also confirmed for September 30. With several major additions landing together, server communities may want to reserve breeding, taming and transport capacity before update day—particularly if they plan to pursue Cerberax immediately rather than wait for the initial rush to settle.
Temporary-server deadline is September 18
Players using Official Network sessions labelled Expire have a nearer deadline. These temporary servers are scheduled to close at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET on September 18. They can be located using “Expire” in the session filter.
The sessions are intended as short-term places to play, gather resources and tame creatures while easing demand elsewhere on the network. Players may download a character onto an Expire server, but the transfer limits mean they cannot bring other belongings in. They can, however, take items, creatures and characters back out.
Nothing left on an Expire server will persist after the closure time. Anyone using one should arrange an exit well before September 18, transferring out characters, inventory and tames rather than treating the deadline as a last-minute chore. This is especially important for tribes holding valuable lines or equipment acquired during a temporary stay.
Official rates and Conquest details
The current Official Network bonus period runs through Tuesday, September 8. Standard PvP and PvE servers have double harvesting, taming, experience and breeding rates. Small Tribes receives 4.5x harvesting, taming and experience, plus 4x breeding. ARKpocalypse has 5x rates across harvesting, taming, experience and breeding. For players with a short breeding cycle, a difficult tame, or a resource-intensive build planned, the remaining window is the time to prioritize it.
Conquest Season 8 remains available on PC, Xbox and PlayStation and is focused on accelerated large-scale PvP. The season uses 18 Genesis Part 1 maps, 5x rates and Tek with several exclusions: Tek Grenade, Tapejara Tek Saddle, Megalodon Tek Saddle, Rock Drake Tek Saddle, Mosasaur Tek Saddle and Tek Railgun. Twelve Cluster A servers previously had transfers enabled with Classic, while Cluster B consists of six servers restricted to internal transfers for its first two weeks; the announced July 17 opening of transfers between those clusters has already passed.
Cross-platform mod picks
The in-game mod browser’s latest official spotlight includes Prometeus: Frontiers of ARK, Ascended Armory, Extreme Creatures: Audacoceratops, Tudor Medieval Structures, Astraeos – Wardrobe, Astreos Structures – Custom Cosmetic, Xyphias’ Creatures: T. rex, [T.A.C] Vectispinus, [T.A.C] Eocarcharia, ARKOLOGY: OE – Desolatitan and No Untameables. These are optional player-created downloads rather than components of the September 30 game update, but they are available through ARK’s dedicated cross-platform mod system.
For the immediate future, the practical priorities are straightforward: finish any boosted-rate projects before September 8, evacuate temporary servers before September 18, and prepare for a crowded September 30 update that combines a demanding new tame with an engine upgrade, a creature refresh and Dragontopia content.
