What is the current ARK 2 release window?
2028 is the studio's stated intention.
Studio Wildcard co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz said that a 2028 release is the team's intention. That is the best current schedule signal, but it is not a fixed launch date or a guarantee.
Does ARK 2 have an exact release date?
No exact day or month has been announced.
The official Steam store page says “To be announced.” Treat countdowns, retailer placeholders, and unsourced dates as speculation until an official store or Studio Wildcard publishes a specific date.
Is the old end-of-2024 launch window still current?
No. The end-of-2024 window was superseded.
Studio Wildcard announced the end-of-2024 target in March 2023. The game did not launch in that window, Steam now says TBA, and the later developer interview points to a 2028 intention.
Which ARK 2 platforms are officially announced?
Xbox Series X|S and PC are announced.
Xbox lists Xbox Series X|S and PC. Steam also has an active Windows store page. These are the platforms readers can currently treat as officially announced.
Is ARK 2 coming to Xbox Game Pass?
Day-one Game Pass is an announced launch plan, not a current dated listing.
Studio Wildcard said ARK 2 would launch on Xbox, Game Pass, and Windows distribution platforms. Xbox has since removed its old ARK 2 product page, so we classify Game Pass as a target to recheck when launch plans become specific.
Is a PlayStation 5 version confirmed?
No PS5 version is currently listed on the official pages reviewed.
The current Xbox and Steam pages establish Xbox Series X|S and PC, but they do not announce a PS5 edition. That is not proof a PlayStation version will never happen; it means the answer remains unannounced.
Has gameplay crossplay been confirmed?
Cross-platform modding is confirmed; gameplay crossplay is not clearly confirmed.
Official descriptions repeatedly promise cross-platform mods. They do not clearly promise that Xbox and PC players can join the same ARK 2 session. Cross-platform mod support and multiplayer crossplay are different features.
Is ARK 2 a third-person game?
Yes. Official material describes strict third-person mechanics.
Studio Wildcard has described ARK 2 as a third-person experience rather than a direct copy of ARK's first-person feel. This is one of the sequel's most important design changes.
What kind of combat will ARK 2 use?
Skill-based, Souls-like third-person melee combat is planned.
Official descriptions name target lock, blocking, dodging, combos, staggers, special attacks, and an emphasis on player skill. Exact balance and controls can still evolve before release.
What traversal systems are confirmed?
Mantling, free-climbing, parkour, sliding, and swinging are described.
Movement is intended to be more active and vertical than in earlier ARK games. The official store copy says players can climb, vault, slide, swing, and move through the environment dynamically.
Will ARK 2 support mods?
Yes. Cross-platform, stackable user-created mods are planned.
The Steam description names custom creatures, items, gameplay features, and maps, plus support for modded unofficial servers. Delivery details and platform policies may become clearer closer to launch.
Which survival systems have been described?
Dynamic events, creature tracking, skill trees, and modular crafting are planned.
Official copy describes world events that happen independently, creatures that track by sight, sound, and smell, character progression through a skill tree, and weapons or tools assembled from modules and materials.
What play modes are listed?
Steam lists single-player, MMO, online PvP, and online co-op.
Those store tags establish the intended broad mode mix. Server structure, player counts, hosting rules, and whether every mode launches at the same time remain unspecified.
Which engine is ARK 2 using?
ARK 2 is being developed with Unreal Engine 5.
Steam and Xbox both name Unreal Engine 5. Official descriptions highlight streamed world partitions, improved lighting, physically based rendering, and other next-generation rendering systems.
Are the PC system requirements available?
No. Minimum and recommended specifications remain TBA.
The Steam page does not yet provide a CPU, GPU, memory, storage, or operating-system requirement. Hardware recommendations published elsewhere are estimates, not official specifications.
Who are the main announced characters?
Vin Diesel plays Santiago, and Auli'i Cravalho voices his daughter Meeka.
The story follows Santiago protecting Meeka on a dangerous alien world. The hostile Aratai are also described as dinosaur-riding enemies connected to the new setting.
How does Legacy of Santiago connect to ARK 2?
The planned Q4 2027 ASA expansion is intended to test and introduce ARK 2 ideas.
Stieglitz described Legacy of Santiago as a phase for introducing mechanics and features the team wants to test for ARK 2. It is a bridge toward the sequel, not ARK 2 itself.
Can ARK 2 be preordered, and what will it cost?
No official price or preorder is listed.
Steam currently offers a wishlist option without a price or purchase button. Any claimed retail price, edition list, or preorder bonus should be treated as unconfirmed until an official storefront publishes it.
